For the faint of heart, be warned. This book will flay you open, expose you to horror upon horror, and then put you back together with nothing more than hope and "maybe love". In other words, it is pure genius! Please read the trigger warnings because there really is a lot in here that is dark and heartbreaking, however, and this is a huge point, there is an awful lot of strength and hope and, yes, even love. The things that Noah went through as a child are utterly horrific, but the author managed to highlight how strong Noah was and how resilient, rather than focus on the bad. While Noah thinks of himself as damaged, the story focuses on his inner strength to deal with the turn his life has taken and how, in Adam, he finds the pieces to fill in his voids. Adam is absolutely fascinating and uniquely endearing - in as much as a psychopath can be! I love how he clinically looks at his relationship with Noah and, while emotionally he doesn't completely understand it, he knows that something fundamental shifted in him the day they met. Adam's brothers are a sarcastic, abrasive group and I loved each of them. This book is filled with so much emotion that it's difficult to put into words just how much this resonated with me. There's humor and heartbreak. There's adrenaline fueled chaos and quiet moments of simple communication. There's obsession and possession and off the charts sexual heat. There are parts that I felt so deeply that it was scary. Maybe it's because I experienced similar trauma as a child. Maybe it's because the author is a complete wizard with words and completely exposed a world that really exists. Perhaps it's both! Whatever the reason, this is one book that will stay with me for quite some time and I mean that in the best of ways. It is absolutely stunning and I can not recommend it enough! It goes without say that if you don't like dark romances, don't even think about reading this book. But if you're like me, and can't get enough of them, babe are you in for a treat.This is my favorite type of dark romance. The darkness comes from outside events and from what the characters are, not who they are. This leaves room for a true and proper romance to blossom. Adam and Noah are both so messed up yet so beautiful together. Their banter was hilarious, Adams possessive nature was understandable therefor hot, and the smut...mama! I feel spoiled and loved and seen all at once.As for the other characters, even though there are a total of seven brothers and all of their names start with A, by the halfway point I had no trouble telling them apart. They all have their own distinct personalities, the twins and August being my fav. Don't judge me. The banter in this book is everything. It's pretty dark because you know, they're psychopaths who kill people, but it's also really funny. The second to last chapter had me rolling. I started to cry, that's how hard I was laughing.I can already see people comparing this book to Dexter and while I understand, Dexter wishes it was this good. This doesn't feel cheap. Thought and research went into this and it shows. Nothing feels trivialised or glossed over. The abuse Noah suffered is given time (not a spoiler, it's in the TW). We as readers don't have to relive the trauma with him but we do get to process and feel the weight of it with him. for the reader to process with him. It's really beautifully done. If you love dark romances, you are going to have so much fun with this book. Five stars because August's booked is next and I could not be more hyped. I want to know what's on that playlist. Fingers crossed for some top 40 pop.
